Movie: Iron Man

Went to see Iron Man today as part of my birthday weekend celebrations.

I very much enjoyed it. I certainly wasn't sure that I would before I went to see it. Iron Man is one of those Marvel characters I never really warmed to, but the film did a pretty good job, I think.

Yes, it was flawed. There were mistakes and omissions and some of the plot was unbelievable, but that didn't detract from an enjoyable experience overall. It had humor, lots of effects, some nice characters and an engaging, if basic, plot.

I'll be watching it again on DVD.

Shiny new things and warranties

A nice man came today to fix our house. Not that it was particularly broken, just had a few odds and ends that needed doing. Being a new house it's all covered under the developer warranty, apparently, and so I don't have to do it all myself.

Never had a new house before, so its rather nice to have someone who'll come and sort out those annoying things (e.g. the plug on the sink getting stuck in the up position). I can certainly recommend it. If I was being cynical I'd say it was all factored into the higher cost of a new house - but I wouldn't do that, would I?

Having said all that, we still have a leaking gutter which needs sorting out. Guess it's time to call the customer service number again and then sit back until someone arrives to do it. Wonderful.

... FOR MY WIFE!

It was Olga's birthday today.

She got some great presents, we had a picnic (albeit on the lounge floor because the weather looked a bit dubious) and then we went to the local pub for dinner.

All in all, a fine day.

Olga did get a camera, from me, which hopefully means we will be getting some more reasonable quality pics to post.
